I am an independent IT consultant, architect, amateur photographer and keen observer of the world in general. Welcome to my web site!
I am an independent consultant specialising in the development of strategies and technical architectures which allow businesses to get the maximum benefit from their IT resources. Deploying a unique combination of managerial, commercial and technical skills, I can help to deliver high quality, cost-effective business applications whether developed, procured or derived from existing assets. I have been described by clients as a "broad spectrum" architect, summarising my ability to engage in many problems at many levels.
Please browse these pages to find out about my skills and services, client profiles and some products and development ideas.
As well as practicing in the field of software architecture, I am also enthusiastic about developing the discipline, the people within it, and the way it is used. I have written and presented a number of papers on software architecture and related matters, am a founder member of WWISA and IASA, and run the AgileArchitect.Org website, dedicated to the practice of software architecture following the best principles of agile development.
My blog, Thoughts on the World, covers a number of technical topics, including architecture, agile development and detailed design issues. I have also published a range of professional book reviews on topics such as Architecture, Human-Computer Interaction, Project and People Management, Modelling and Analysis, and Programming and Development.

I've always had a strong interest in photography, both as a practical tool to record our experiences in life, and as an art form. Have a look at my Photography Zone - a gallery of a few shots I'm quite pleased with, and a growing collection of articles, tips, utilities and thoughts on photography in general.
To keep up with my photographic writings and efforts, please visit my photo blog. Photographs from my trip to Cuba are on my Cuba Travel Blog, and those from my recent trip to Iceland are on my Iceland Travel Blog.
If you don't know whether my photography's the thing for you, why not have a quick look at my "Tenset" - ten of my favourite shots, which between them give you some idea of my preferred subjects and style.
I have also published a number of book reviews on Photography and Photographers.
